4/9/18: Mama Monday
Hello, lovelies! How was your weekend? As usual, I feel mine went by in a flash. Ready to kick some butt this week, though. We’re busy busy as usual.
One of the many things I often feel like I am juggling is parenthood. It’s hard to balance being a good mom with taking care of all the other aspects of my life, especially myself.
My 4-year-old keeps me on my toes all the time. Anyone who has met her knows she is a determined, outgoing, fierce kiddo. Sometimes, she is fierce to the point of being an incredible challenge to me. Movement is something that is helpful for her.
I’ve explored a lot of ways to incorporate movement into our time together. Obviously, this will get easier once spring has actually sprung enough for us to take walks together. In the meantime, though, we’ve been practicing yoga and meditation together. I think it is incredibly helpful in giving her an outlet, and it helps me with my own health journey (physically and mentally).
I turn to YouTube for (far too) many things, and yoga for kids is no exception. Our favorite lately has been the Cosmic Kids yoga channel. With videos featuring Frozen yoga, Star Wars, and classics like “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,” we are not at a shortage of new videos to try.
The other method we’ve been using lately is for meditation. At nighttime, she has been asking me to use the Headspace app on my phone. Along with a large library of meditation sessions geared toward adults, there are also guided meditations for kids that help with bedtime and calming down. She loves them. So do I. It’s a good way for both of us to wind down and practice mindfulness.
I’ve also found some good options on Spotify as far as playlists, artists, and albums. I really like this album by Sada. Minnie-Me isn’t too into these yet, but I have a feeling they’ll grow on her. If not, I’m fine enjoying them on my own, too. 🙂
